The Salesians of Don Bosco in Eastern Congo
The presence of the Salesians of Don Bosco in Eastern Congo is rooted in a long history of missionary dedication, pastoral outreach, and vibrant youth ministry. For decades, Salesians have walked alongside the young people and communities of this region, responding to their deepest needs with education, formation, and compassionate service.
Eastern Congo, a region marked by rich cultural heritage, resilient communities, and significant social challenges, has been a place of priority for the Salesian mission in Africa. Inspired by the charism of Don Bosco, Salesians have worked in schools, vocational centres, youth pastoral programs, parish ministries, and social development initiatives, always with a special focus on empowering young people, especially those most vulnerable.
The Salesian commitment in Eastern Congo reflects the Congregation’s core mission: to offer quality education, spiritual formation, and opportunities for human development, particularly for young people at risk. Through technical training centres, oratories, educational institutions, and community programs, Salesians accompany young people toward lives of dignity, hope, and purpose.
Recognising the growth and unique needs of the Salesian mission in this part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Congregation, under the leadership of the Rector Major and the General Council, has strengthened its presence and collaboration with local communities. This ongoing commitment affirms the Salesians’ trust in the potential of Eastern Congo’s youth and their dedication to supporting a future of faith, solidarity, and human flourishing.
As the mission continues to evolve, the Salesians of Don Bosco in Eastern Congo remain deeply committed to being a living presence of the Gospel, education, and joyful service, forming good Christians and honest citizens according to the spirit of Don Bosco.
